Hard Road (Jon Reznick #1) by J.B. Turner

2018-05-12

Very much in the vein of Lee Child, but not so well-developed.

The positives:

– fast pacing, which throws you into the story and doesn’t let go
– peril and stakes continue to grow, certainly for the first half of the book
– some great research, making the investigative side feel very well realized

The negatives:

– the main character lacks personality and a sense of morality that would make them truly sympathetic
– some of the dialogue was unnecessarily chatty and could have been cut
– there was a little too much convenience, especially the ability to use face recognition software to track someone pretty much across the eastern seaboard.
– Virus and bacteria are not interchangeable words!

Overall, I’d give this 3.5 stars, but I’ve rounded up to 4 because I remain curious about how this series develops.
